Your life,

your story,

your voice.

What stories does your life hold?
How will you voice your life?

Voiced Life workshops promote self-discovery and acceptance through the creative power of journal writing and book arts, in a safe and encouraging environment. We help individuals to articulate, in their own words, who they are and who they want to be through a combination of writing and book arts.

Using journal techniques and writing prompts, you will explore:

Who You Are

What defines you, as a unique individual? Hint: You get to choose.

Your Life Meaning

What gifts do you bring to the world and what will you do with them?

Your Hopes & Dreams

Sky’s the limit: What do you want and how will you get there?

You in the World

No one is an island. Who’s in your community?

Our Values and Vision

Safe environment, acceptance, exploration and creativity.

Voiced Life provides safe and encouraging creative experiences to explore who you are and who you can be.

By examining ourselves and our lives through writing and book arts, we have the power and ability to articulate who we are and who we want to be, in our own words.

“Start telling the stories that only you can tell.”

– Neil Gaiman

About Voiced Life

Brenda Hudson, PhD
Writing Instructor & Curriculum Developer

Brenda Hudson, PhD, is a teacher, editor, certified journal facilitator, and creative writer. She leads workshops for youth and adults, where participants create unique books of themselves using journaling and book arts techniques. She is particularly passionate about helping youth articulate who they are, in their own words, to form strong identities and resilience.

Writing has been a constant companion throughout Brenda’s life and career. As a child, she used writing to help figure things out, expressing thoughts and asking questions in her journal. In her adult life, she worked in journalism at NBC News in London and New York and at the BBC World Service Television in London. After living abroad for nearly 10 years, she returned to the Midwest, where she worked as a health sciences writer at the University of Minnesota and obtained her PhD from the Department of Writing Studies. She is a credentialed journal facilitator through the Therapeutic Writing Institute. Today, in addition to leading creative writing workshops, she teaches academic writing to doctoral students.

Through Voiced Life, Brenda offers a variety of writing workshops for adults and youth. Participants learn journaling and book arts techniques in a fun and supportive environment—where they are encouraged to selfishly focus on themselves! Brenda also is a frequent teaching artist at the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, where she was recipient of its Excellence in Teaching Fellowship in 2016 and 2017, and at the Madeline Island School of the Arts, where she teaches legacy writing.
